We’ve updated the ortho emergency information on our website. If you or your child are undergoing orthodontic treatment we recommend that you bookmark it, download and/or print it, or save it in your phone. You can also request a copy of this information at our office if you need a replacement for the copy distributed when treatment begins.

On this page you’ll find essential information on how to deal with routine orthodontic problems:

  • discomfort after orthodontic treatment
  • loose bracket(s)
  • loose or poking wire(s)
  • what constitutes an emergency vs. a routine problem to be fixed during a routine office visit

We do schedule our orthodontic “emergency” appointments in the morning and early afternoon and we hold time daily for problems to be resolved. Please always call the office for an appointment should you need our help. We are pleased to be available to you Monday through Saturday in our office to handle routine problems and through our on-call answering service when problems are more severe.

If the problem is significant and cannot be addressed with the tips found in the flyer/website, there is always a dental specialist on call after hours. They are able to address major concerns including but not limited to facial or dental trauma, significant pain that is not resolvable with over-the-counter medication or application of wax, and any oral or facial swelling. The on-call doctor will not be able to schedule routine appointments for repair of loose items or other simple issues like poking wires. Please call during regular hours for these issues to be quickly resolved.

About Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontic Specialists of Michigan, the offices of Drs. Delaney, Plunkett, Ralstrom, Makowski, Thanasas, Ker, and Associates

Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontic Specialists of Michigan have specialized in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics since 1968. Our family-friendly and newly renovated office gives patients and families a more comfortable and consistent experience with dentistry from the very beginning. Our pediatric dentists treat children from newborn to 18 years of age while our orthodontists provide care for both children and adults and are proud to be Premier Providers of Invisalign and Invisalign Teen services. The ability to treat all patients with compassion and individuality, including those that may have special needs reaches beyond our facility, which has treatment rooms available for children who require additional privacy and customized care options.  We pioneered valued hospital affiliations to allow dental services to be performed at DMC Children’s Hospital and St. John Macomb Hospital, when appropriate or necessary, and our specialists are also proud to be on staff at Henry Ford and Beaumont hospitals.
