Drinking enough water is essential for good oral health, but getting children to drink enough can sometimes be a challenge. Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontic Specialists of Michigan has some simple tips to help you convince your child to drink more water:

Pick Out a Fun Cup or Water Bottle

One simple way to make drinking water more appealing to your child is to pick out a fun cup or water bottle. Look for one with their favorite characters, bright colors, or fun designs. Children are often more likely to drink from a cup or bottle that they find exciting.

Use a Reward Chart to Set Goals

Another way to encourage your child to drink more water is to use a reward chart. Set a goal for how much water they should drink each day and then use a chart to track their progress. When they reach their goal, reward them with something they enjoy, like an extra story at bedtime or a trip to the park. This can be a great way to help your child stay motivated to drink more water.

Add Fresh Fruit for a Little Flavor

Adding a little flavor to your child’s water can also make it more appealing. Try adding fresh fruit like grapes, kiwis, or strawberries to the water. This will add a little sweetness and a fun color, making drinking water a fun treat.  A slice of lemon in the water can also add lemonade like flavor with much less sugar and acid than actual lemonade.

Set an Example by Drinking More Water Too!

Join in by drinking more water yourself. Children are often more likely to do things that they see their parents doing. So, make sure you’re drinking enough water too, and encourage your child to join you.
