Dr. Martin Makowski, fondly referred to as, “Dr. Mak,” has been selected by his peers to serve as the next President of the Michigan Dental Association.  Makowski’s relationship with the Michigan Dental Association dates back to 1987.

MACOMB, MI – The Michigan Dental Association has selected their next president, Dr. Martin Makowski.   “Dr. Mak,” a veteran member of the MDA, has been an active group participant since moving back to Michigan in 1987.  He has been selected to receive this honor based on a range of accomplishments and credentials, including his involvement with his local dental group, the Macomb Dental Society (MDS) and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Michigan Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association.

Dr Martin MakowskiDr. Mak served in a number of positions within the MDS.  Beginning his service track with the MDS, Dr. Mak was elected to a position as Chair of the Dental Health Month event, and continued to serve in this position for several years.  After, Dr. Mak accepted a position as Chair to the Programs Committee, wherein he was expected to choose and organize speakers for local meetings that occur on a quarterly basis.   From there, Dr. Mak moved on to become a Councilperson for the MDS, and eventually was elected to positions such as Secretary, President-Elect, President, and Past-President.

Dr. Mak’s involvement with the MDA began with a six-year Trustee position.  During his time spent as a Trustee, Dr. Mak was also elected as both Treasurer and Vice President, respectively.  Accepting his position as Vice President of the MDA put Dr. Mak on the path to MDA presidency.

Dr. Mak has expressed that “leadership is an evolving process.”  Throughout his own “process,” this incredibly dedicated pediatric dentist has felt consistently rewarded by the dental profession.  Dr. Mak feels strongly that his involvement in organized dentistry is his way of giving back to the profession as a whole, and hopes that his efforts will help the world of dentistry “to be better tomorrow than it is today.”  With eyes fixed on the future, Dr. Mak will begin his term as President of the Michigan Dental Association in May of 2014.
