Of course we love it! Family and friends are gathered around a table delightfully brimming with heavenly food, thankfulness for the blessings we have, and Lions football on the television! What’s not to like, right? It really is a wonderful holiday to celebrate here in our lovely state. We do have some friendly reminders from our dentists and orthodontists at Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontic Specialists of Michigan to make sure it’s a wonderful holiday.

Cut your meats. Most thanksgiving food is really easy to eat and very easy on orthodontic appliances. However, meats should be cut into manageable pieces or removed from the bone for patients with braces to prevent any broken appliances.

Be careful with nuts and other crunchy ingredients. No one wants to find an unwelcome olive pit or nut shell in their food but orthodontic patients have to be extra careful with these hard items to avoid accidental breakages.

Be aware of sugar intake. All those creamy, mushy sides– potatoes, sweet potatoes, veggies and beans–are orthodontics friendly but everyone has to remember remember that starch turns into sugar and you must brush your teeth before passing out from all the food!

Drink some water. Desserts and sweets are as much a part of the holiday as the main course. With these, the same rules apply: Look out for crunchy, hard and chunky ingredients if you have braces. Use a fork and knife to make everything safe and more manageable. Drinking water with your meal instead of juices or other sugary beverages will help to rinse the teeth and neutralize any sugar or acid that is coming from the foods.

Be thankful. Our family at Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontic Specialists of Michigan hopes you and your families have a very enjoyable Thanksgiving. We are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to be completing our 49th year serving the communities of southeast Michigan communities with pediatric dental and orthodontic care and we are grateful for all of the wonderful relationships we have made along the way.

Happy Thanksgiving!

About Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontic Specialists of Michigan, the offices of Drs. Delaney, Plunkett, Ralstrom, Makowski, Thanasas, Ker, and Associates

Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontic Specialists of Michigan have specialized in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics since 1968. Our family-friendly and newly renovated office gives patients and families a more comfortable and consistent experience with dentistry from the very beginning. Our pediatric dentists treat children from newborn to 18 years of age while our orthodontists provide care for both children and adults and are proud to be Premier Providers of Invisalign and Invisalign Teen services. The ability to treat all patients with compassion and individuality, including those that may have special needs reaches beyond our facility, which has treatment rooms available for children who require additional privacy and customized care options.  We pioneered valued hospital affiliations to allow dental services to be performed at DMC Children’s Hospital and St. John Macomb Hospital, when appropriate or necessary, and our specialists are also proud to be on staff at Henry Ford and Beaumont hospitals.
