Each February the American Dental Association sponsors the National Children’s Dental Health Event to raise awareness about the importance of oral health.

Reaching millions of people across the United States, this event is meant to reinforce the importance of good habits in people of all ages. Scheduling regular dental visits and promoting healthy behavior can lead to a lifetime of health and happiness, and it is a way for people to become more acclimated with why dental hygiene is important.

The 2015 campaign features the slogan “Defeat Monster Mouth,” which features the McGrinn Twins, Flossy and Buck and their neighbors Den, Gen Smiley and K-9 the Dog. The gang fights Plaqster – the monster for bad oral health.

The posters are a means of encouraging pre-teens and teenagers the importance of brushing, flossing, rinsing and eating healthier snacks. The programming guide provides coordinators, dental societies, teachers and parents with resources to succeed.

It’s important to practice good oral health all year long, but this month helps shine a light on why it is important to take care of your teeth and develop good habits for oral hygiene to have a healthy smile for a lifetime.
